Miami, FL, 10th August 2022, ZEXPRWIREJosh Leiva is a clinical researcher currently stationed in Miami, Florida. Josh decided to enter the study of medicine and attended Edison State College in 2011 and then continued his education in Miami Dade College. In addition to attending college, Josh worked early on as a Research technologist for about two years, gaining experience with early phase studies, pharmacology and preventive medicine. After finishing his time working in early phase clinical trials, Josh went on to take two more positions in clinical research as Research Coordinator and now manages a Research site in Coral Gables, FL. As a medical technologist and a research assistant at SearView Research and South Florida Research Institute, Inventiv Health and other prestigious Research facilities, Josh gained a variety of skills working on pharmacokinetics, medical research, and FDA regulations. Aside from his work, Josh has also taken a special interest in studying arthritis and psychiatric trials. He plans to have more research opportunities to study this disease in the future, as well as growing his Research practice in Coral Gables. Josh has participated in new treatment options for patients, even making treatments free for patients who had difficulties paying. Josh has devoted his life to research and helping those in need. Josh’s unique experiences with different patients has given him a chance to understand more about the needs in the medical community and allowed him to research diseases like Ankylosing Spondylitis, which his own brother suffers from.

Following his years of clinical research experience, Josh Leiva is ready to take on psychiatric trials, a much-needed practice in America. Josh Leiva’s experience working as a clinical researcher has given him a great example of what he wants to do in the future, and he plans to make an impact on the lives of people around him, specially to people affected with mental illness who do not have the proper care, nor the resources to understand their own condition fully.. Josh Leiva is a clinical researcher currently stationed in Miami, Florida. Josh decided to enter the study of medical research and attended Edison State College in 2011 for which he obtained a degree in pre-medical studies. He then moved on to Miami Dade College and obtained his Bachelors in Biology and now pursues his Masters degree. In addition to attending rigorous schooling, Josh worked as a Research Technologist for about 2 years, gaining experience with early phase trials and how the clinical aspect of trials work. After finishing his time as a Research Technologist, in 2012, Josh went on to take a Clinical Research Coordinator position and continues to work as such until now. As a research professional, Josh understood that there is a gap between psychiatric illnesses and proper treatment, and it reflects on the lack of understanding of conditions like OCD, or PTSD. New breakthroughs that allow common treatment medications such as SSRIs work in a more efficient way were found and his new found interest awoke a drive to help those in need. Aside from his work, Josh has also taken a special interest in studying Ankylosing Spondylitis, from which his own brother suffers from. Seeing his brother hunch over “like a bamboo” breaks his heart, pushing him to study the disease even more. He plans to have more research opportunities to study this disease in the future, as well as growing his new research site in Coral Gables, where he studies patients with OCD, osteoarthritis and COPD conditions. Josh has participated in new treatment options for patients, even making treatments free for patients who had difficulties paying. Josh has devoted his life to research and helping those in need. Josh’s unique experiences with different patients has given him a chance to understand more about the needs in the medical community and allowed him to research diseases like Ankylosing Spondylitis and psychiatric illness effectively.

There is a growing need for individuals in the healthcare industry; with the effects of the pandemic still lingering it is imperative that individuals like Josh begin this variety of research. Nurses, doctors, researchers, and medical assistants truly devote their lives to their line of work, and Josh is eager to do the same with his work.

“I got into medicine in my senior year of high school,” Leiva states. “I’ve always had a passion for medicine, and I’m grateful for all of the work I was able to do to help others.”

Aside from Josh’s natural love of research, he does include one personal reason why he is so passionate about studying diseases and other illnesses.

“I have a brother who’s currently suffering from AS. It’s tough watching him have to suffer like that, but it pushes me to work harder to make sure I can contribute to finding a cure,” Josh Leiva said, when asked about his reasoning for researching.

AS is a serious disease that afflicts about 300,000 of Americans, and unfortunately there is no cure available for those affected by it nor is there proper treatment in other countries like Costa Rica, where his brother resides. The inner workings of the disease are quite complex and difficult to understand, but Josh is determined to make significant contributions towards researching the disease. He’s also specially driven to help psychiatrists understand better ways to treat illnesses such as OCD and hopes to make medical advances in his new study now being conducted in Coral Gables, FL. He has worked in all phases of clinical research, from pre-clinical, phase I to IV, and he plans to utilize the knowledge he has gained to help individuals struggling with AS and other harmful diseases. Josh’s future dreams will not only equip him with the tools to study this disease more often but to connect with others who may be seeking the same goal; helping others and learning more with each experience and hopefully helping more people in other less fortunate countries.
